Help my anti virus software has detected a virus. but will only do something if i renew it. help!?

i don't want to renew it, and it keeps blinking at the bottom right hand corner of my screen. i can't get rid of it. the virus is a trojan.peacomm. apparently it's been spreading on my comp for 2 weeks. how do i get rid of it? is there anywhere i can get a free virus removal programme?

AVG.COM, AOL.COM both have complete antivirus and are free....good luck

on the start menu click "run"and type MRT.exe..do a full system scan using this built removal tool.then go to "super antispyware.com",and download the free version,and run a full scan.
Download and install AVG Free Antivirus - accept all defaults during installation - including allowing it to run a full scan.

Actually, I just descovered that you can now get NORTON antivirus totally free as it comes with the google pack.

I got it here, follow the link to the download page then get the pack and tick to install what you want, get ADAWARE as well!
