Is it possible to get a virus even if you have a anti virus installed?

It seems that i may have a virus. Everytime i launch internet explorer i recieve a pop up. I have nortons and it detected 2 viruses that i deleted them but it seems to still be there. I have also used windows defender to try and locate bad software or program i may have downloaded. I also erased the malicious software from my computer. I am using windows pop up blocker set at high and i also have yahoo tool bar that has blocker as well. these were working before very well until i recieved a virus. what do i need to do to get this problem fixed.

Most likely the virus/malware updates itself everytime you connect to internet.Get some anti-spyware and scan your pc(yes, get several). You should have only one anti-virus and couple of anti-spyware software. If the browser is infected then I recommend "Hijack this".Its a pretty good tool.AND get a good firewall.I prefer ZoneAlarm. And dont forget to update your virus definition file.

sure is Report It

You can buy all the most sophisticated virus removal tools you want but viruses are newly created on a daily basis. NO anti-virus software is capable of detecting a virus if it does not no it exists yet! In time, the anti-virus software company will stumble across the virus and update your software. The problem is, it may already be too late. I will say this once again, Porn sites, free music download sites, online gaming sites, gambling sites, so called free software sites, etc. are almost ALWAYS guaranteed to at least be infected with adware and spyware, not to mention the possibilities of trojans, hijackers, and malware! I dont use anti virus software at all. No need for it if you are intelligent enough to understand these basics. If I want my mp3 music I go buy a cd and and rip it to mp3. I vary rarely get infected! Been on the net for 15 years and believe me, I learned it the hard way! I repair computers for a living and most of the money I make is cleaning peoples systems out. Some of the people I service have the most sophisticated virus protection you can pay for and they still get infected! People think they are protected, they aint got a clue. E mail is another subject, Get yourself two e-mail accounts. A primary account solely for family and friends, and a secondary for all the websites that ask you for an e-mail addy. Dont open attachments in the primary unless its family pics, that funny joke someone sent you isnt worth the 75 bucks your gonna pay to clean your system. Simply use it for communications. Let your secondary account get the spam! It will take care of itself. Remember, a good portion of viruses comes through your e-mail directly from unknowing friends.
I guess it isn't a virus, your Home page on I.E should be using a page that shows you a pop-up window when load, Although you must to update your virus' signature frequently, once a week at least.
yeah u may prob need a firewall
