no, Norton isn't all it's cracked up to be, especially for what you have to pay
Free AVG is good
I rather like Avast AntiVirus
to get some quick results, you can scan with DrWeb and ClamWin, then go for Avast as these don't need to be installed to run, and can get a good start
Don't forget to update all databases before scanning, or it dosen't do much good. You can also boot into Safe Mode to clean easier, or Safe Mode with Networking to update the databases.

Just because it's more expensive doesn't mean it's any better. I wouldn't let Norton in the same room with my computer, much less put it ON the computer. Been there - done that - never do it again.
AVG 7.5 or Avast 4 Home are both free, both just as good, if not better than Norton. They aren't memory hogs, they don't slow down your computer, they update daily. THEY ARE FREE!!
