I downloaded a free anti-virus software which caused more problems than they solved, what do I do?

I bought a used laptop that didn't have any virus protection, and I looked online to try to find something which was free. The software did the exact opposite of what it was intended for. Plus, I've used the restore option like 5 times in two days. I tried loading Mc Afee Suite but my computer just freeze up. I'm not a computer whiz, so if they can be stated in caveman terms i will be much obliged.

Uninstall it and purchase TrendMicro or Nortons. Free programs are great when they work but, you get what you pay for....Alot of free programs have alot of issues, and sometimes their own spyware attached.

Use some thing else. Norton, AVG , Avast are free antivirus software. Ad-aware, Spybot, Ewido are free spyware removers. You can download free softwares at http://fixit.in/antivirus.html and http://fixit.in/spywareremover.html . You can also run a free registry scan using utilities from http://re7.info
