AVG or Bitdefender are good anti-virus and free and ZoneAlarm free is a very good firewall. I have used all 3 on several windows systems with a lot of success and they don't seem to use a lot of system resources.

In my experience i would say looking at what you want, you want to steer clear way clear of norton that is the resource hogger of all time. Then also i would say the antivirus is between AVG or BitDefender, AVG is very minimal in resources, however BitDefender is better as an antivirus but does tend to hog resources at times. Together with AVG i use Comodo Firewall Pro, it is also absolutely free and ptobably one of the best combinations out there. Comodo uses little resources too, honestly speaking sometimes but not often at all will it slow the computer, this is normally from lots of network activity though. Good Luck !
